Turkey
Turkey came to TLC in November of 2021, shut down, afraid of the world, and wary of men. We may not have known much about his background, but we knew we would do everything we could to help him.
When he was adopted in December, our team had high hopes that he was on his way to a happy life. However, he decided to go on an adventure and escaped from his adopter the same day they brought him home.
It took about a week, but he was caught and brought back into a foster home. Still afraid, he was “so shut down that I secretly feared he would live under my daughter’s bedside table forever,” his foster said.
Over the next few months and with lots of patience, love, and care, Turkey began to gain confidence. He started attending events but preferred to play the part of the wallflower.
After all his shyness, Turkey surprised us all at one of our Meet and Greats by plopping himself on the ground between a couple that had stopped by. He rested his head on one of their laps, as if to say, “You’re my people now.”
They adopted him that afternoon.
Turkey’s new mom and dad tell us: “He is blossoming into a spunky pup with his own unique and quirky personality. He is starting to understand that most people are friendly in this world and that not all men are scary.” Making doggy friends in his neighborhood, playing in the sand and ocean at the beach, and giving his feline sister kisses have become new favorite things to do. In late May, he’ll be getting a puppy brother and we’re sure Turkey will show him how to be a good boy.
