Reba
Scared and shut-down, Reba Rose arrived from Mississippi in October of 2021. Her first six months of life had been spent under a trailer with her siblings, until the owners could no longer care for her and the family was sent north to TLC. Reba had to be carried off of transport by her eventual foster and hid under the chairs in the corner of the room for over an hour. When she arrived at her foster home, she was so unsure of her new surroundings and what it was like to be cared for, she would not let them touch her for almost a week.
She eventually became comfortable with her new foster parents, but remained terrified of other people and in new situations. What they noticed, however, was how much Reba took to their dog, TLC alum Simon, and how great she was with their foster puppies. In November, Reba was adopted, but was returned within a day. She was adopted again in December, but was returned once more. Often when a dog is returned, they are more anxious and confused. But Reba was excited to see her foster parents, their kids, and their dogs.
After bringing her home for the third time, the foster parents consulted with TLC’s resident trainer on Reba’s behavior, and she began to make great strides. Reba began to feel more comfortable and show more of her amazing self each day. Though Reba went to events and apps were coming in for her, none felt like the right fit. Reba needed an experienced owner with a confident dog, and none seemed to fit the bill. In the meantime, as they waited for the perfect applicant, Reba began to feel like she was at home with her foster family. Likewise, they knew that they could not bear to lose her a third time, so they decided to adopt her. On Reba’s first birthday, they gave her the best gift of all - the furever home that Reba seemed to know was hers from the start.
