Mary
Back in March 2022, Mary was rescued from a terrible hoarding situation in Mississippi. She was pregnant and soon after delivered a litter of puppies at the local shelter, where only 3 survived the stressful shelter environment. In June, she and her 3 surviving puppies traveled to TLC, where the puppies were quickly adopted out to their furever homes.
According to her foster mom, Mary was initially “afraid of everything” and rarely left her bed, but loved cheese, being outside, and would tolerate some petting (albeit shakily). To add to her dismay, Mary was also Heartworm positive and needed to go through Heartworm treatment. With much patience, love, and a little TLC, Mary slowly made progress, first allowing her foster to pet her without trembling and no longer running when the foster looked in her direction. Eventually, she began to feel comfortable with approaching people for attention and affection - provided those people were sitting down. Over time, Mary showed herself to be a sweet, intelligent, gentle soul who, much like Ferdinand the Bull, loved the quiet and sitting outside.
While Mary was still shy and nervous in new situations well into the Fall, she attended a few events, even allowing some quieter kids to approach her. As she continued to gain confidence, she became more interested in exploring her world and meeting the people in it. Nearly 6 months after she arrived, Mary finally found her perfect furever home. While she may always take time to warm up, the patience and dedication of her fosters and many others in the TLC family have allowed her to blossom into a sweet, sassy, brave little lady.
Happy life, Sweet Mary. Your TLC family is so proud of you!
