Happy Labor Day & Deaf Pet Awareness Week

Whisper Ivy is a beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd, She wound up at the shelter only because she had one minor difficulty. She was deaf. Whisper Ivy came up from a shelter in MS on April 25, 2020. She went to a foster home that was already well-versed in deaf (and blind) dogs and loves to take the more “challenging” dogs and work with them to be the best they can be. Whisper Ivy was very timid and scared easily, but she bonded with her foster dad pretty quickly. So much so that she became his shadow. We also learned that Whisper Ivy completely LOVES other dogs. When her foster sister Ruby (a beautiful lab) would approach anyone to say hello, Whisper would light up with her tail wagging and excitement in her eyes, she took many of her cues from Ruby. This was a good indication for us that Whisper Ivy would flourish in a home that had another dog, especially a confident one. Once Whisper was settled into her foster home and we learned more about her, it was time to figure out what type of home would be optimal to live her best life. She had some specific requirements that would make it a little harder to find a home, but we were vested in finding the RIGHT home for her, no matter how long it took. In order for Whisper Ivy to live her best life, we thought it best that she go to a home of an experienced adopter who had a confident dog and was willing to give her the time and patience she needed to feel comfortable and become the dog we knew she could be. Finally, after countless applications, her match was found. On May 14, 2020 Whisper Ivy met and found her forever family. The connection was perfect and we were so happy to have found the family that could meet her needs.

Whisper Ivy is indeed flourishing in her forever home, here is what her furever mom has to say:

“We have totally fallen in love with her and she is doing well adjusting to our household.  She enjoys the fenced in yard – has been keeping an eye on us all when she is out.  Such an interesting combination of trust issues, yet can’t stand to be alone!

There have been no potty accidents and she is taking her food in a separate room from the other animals and is calmly eating.  Today she wagged her tail for the first time and whimpered for the first time when she was done eating and wanted to come back out with everyone else.  She was using her crate throughout the day and night, but the last two days she has decided I am safe and she follows me everywhere and sleeps on the floor in my room.  This morning she woke me to go out; the other mornings she waited until Smudgie was ready to go out.  Friends with the cats and warming up to Smudgie.  Thank you so much for taking such good care of her – she is such a sweet creature!”

Our mission is and always will be “Until they ALL have a home”...
