Happy Mother’s Day & Dog Mom Day!

Road Trip Destination: Terrain at Glenn Mills

Happy Mother’s Day & Happy Dog Mom Day!  We at TLC rescue celebrate love stories and Momma dogs year round.

We have seen first hand why the shelter is no place for a momma dog and her litter.  They run the risk of disease, additional stress for the pups, a stressed out mom & so much more.  Dixie and Jovie remind us why we rescue litters.

Dixie was found as a stray, severely underweight and with two small puppies only a few weeks old.  We immediately brought Dixie and her two puppies to TLC Rescue to a loving foster home where both Mom and her little ones would be waited on, cared for and loved unconditionally.

Shortly after arriving, both puppies became very ill with parvovirus, a highly contagious virus that affects the stomach and small intestines and is often deadly.  One puppy was not strong enough to survive.  Jovie, the other puppy, spent several days in intensive care at the emergency vet (Thank you VRC!) where she not only overcame the illness, but she met her future furever mom!  Jovie’s Dog Mom was one of the vet techs who cared for her, and they quickly fell in love with each other!

All The While, Dixie spent her time gaining weight and getting back to her best self.  We reunited mother and daughter at a wedding at Terrain in Glenn Mills!  Dixie is now Roxie and Jovie is now Penne.  This sweet reunion was a beautiful reminder of love stories coming in all forms and why we rescue!

Fun Fact: We should also mentioned it’s the start of wedding season! During our photoshoot at Terrain with Roxie and Penne, we inadvertently crashed a wedding! The bridal party didn’t seem to mind. Scroll down for outtakes!

Here’s a recent update from Penne (FKA Jovie):

“She has a sister, Emma, who happens to be a 50% Boxer mix too, they constantly “box” each other and match the same energy. She also has two cat brothers, Phil and Reggie, who she loves to mess with. Penne is shy but warms up fast to new people, and loves to cuddle up and take a nap - just as much as she loves to hop around like a bunny! If she had it her way, me and my husband Jeff wouldn’t ever leave the house, but she has grown to love her crate as long as she gets a peanut butter kong!”
