Happy 4th of July & ID Your Pet Day!

Road Trip Destination: Broad Run Park

Nothing seemed more fitting for 4th of July than a dog who finally found freedom in more ways than one.

Julie finally made her way to TLC Rescue following a life of uncertainty. She spent over a year in foster care down south, but admittedly did not receive the attention and security she desperately needed. She learned that the world is untrusting and keeping to herself was her best chance for survival.

She came to us defeated and exhausted. We had never seen such a terrified dog, unable to make eye contact or come within several feet of us. She thrashed on a leash like a fish on a line and recoiled from the slightest touch. She spent the first few days hiding her foster’s dining room, too terrified to even sleep or eat.

Every day she would rush to find her safe spot as far away from people as possible. It was one step forward and two steps back. She started observing the resident dogs which helped her to push  past some of her reservations. And she seemed to realize when she was challenged to move out of her comfort zone, she would always have the protection of her human family.

She had setbacks along the way, especially when she underwent treatment for heartworm, but she never stayed stagnant and gained an ounce of confidence with each passing day. Her fosters finally realized she just needed to know she would never be going anywhere ever again. After months with her family in foster care, it became apparent she had chosen them. The feeling was mutual and she will never worry about ever being abandoned again. Margo is home and she is now the dog new foster dogs look to for comfort. Her family lives for her cuddle sessions, sweet, howling greetings and her mission to pay it forward to other dogs in need.

Happy sweet freedom Margo & happy independence day to everyone!  And don’t forget - more dogs (shy or not) go missing on the 4th of July, so please take the time to update your pet’s ID information & check their microchips before the fireworks & celebration!
