Howard
Most likely to eat all the snacks before the party
Howard’s (affectionately called Howie) journey has been a challenging one from the start. Initially living as a stray, he was hit by a car, leaving him with an untreated injury. Initially it was thought that Marvin’s knee had healed and he was good to go and well on his road to recovery. Unfortunately that just wasn’t the case.
Despite his enthusiasm for racing around the yard, playing fetch, and romping with his fellow four-legged buddies, he began to show signs of intermittent lameness in his hind leg. While his spirit remains unbroken, the distinct limp he displays after playtime serves as a poignant reminder that he still has a way to go to be completely well.
After consulting with our wonderful veterinarians at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates, Marvin was diagnosed with an angular limb deformity and lateral patellar luxation. In simple terms, he needed surgery to correct the angle of his leg and to put his kneecap back where it belongs. These procedures are were essential for Marvin's long-term happiness and well-being. And apparently, so were his fosters, who decided they needed each other.
From the moment he leapt into our backseat I knew he was special. His ears were are big as his personality and he had a way to make everyone laugh without even trying. He clearly had injuries and had been through hell living in the shelter for as long as he had. It’s been a busy summer and start to fall, and part of that was due to Marvin’s surgery and recovery. It was through all the appointments, carrying him up and down the stairs and worrying constantly about his health and happiness that we grew to love him even more.
Every foster dog, our dogs and people he met along the way couldn’t help but fall under his charming spell. I dreaded the day I would need to say goodbye to this tiny party animal, but I prepped myself as best I could. It’s wasn’t until Tim was faced with needing to make the decision that he realized he couldn’t let him go either. And so on 10/8/23, our little man joined the pack. I don’t think he would love life as much as he could if he missed out on fostering other dogs and paying it forward for countless other shelter dogs. Words cannot express how much we love having him here.
He is now named Howard (Marvin was way too close to Margo and caused some serious confusion), but he still plans to party! We never thought we would be a family with four dogs, but sometimes the best things in life are the things you never plan. Welcome home, Howie! We didn’t know you were missing in our lives until you came crashing into our world.”
