It was a busy week-end full of Fall fun featuring the FSFOT Fall Festival & Car Show on Saturday (try saying that 3 times, fast), and today’s ATA Royersford Ninja 5K benefiting the Julia’s Grace Foundation. Today’s race just left us more excited for our upcoming Miles For Mutts event which is only a week away!
In addition to all the excitement, cutie-pie Kandi is happy to report the rumors of her adoption are true and she’s mulling over a name change, possibly to Hailey.
Also celebrating gotcha days this week were: Dawana, Jay, Kaitlyn (now Cocoa), Newton (now Eddard “Ned” Stark) & Pam.
We had some great updates this week too:
Izzy AKA Isadora
I can’t say enough about how much I love Izzy; she is the absolute best pup. When within 24 hours of coming home she had already learned how to “sit”, I knew she was going to love learning. Sure enough, she quickly learned “down”, “off”, loose-leash walking, and “stay”! We’ve worked a little bit on off-leash walking when we’re in the suburbs and she does very well, despite her possible husky heritage. Just this morning, she began learning how to give high-fives! Last week, she graduated from Petco’s Puppy 1 obedience class and the trainer thinks she should soon try for her Canine Good Citizen.
At first, I was nervous she wasn’t going to like the city because she seemed really spooked by cars, but she quickly got over it and loves walking around the city with me. After her initial parasites, she’s been very healthy.
She lovessss other dogs! She goes to a playgroup every day for an hour while I’m at work and the organizer puts her with the larger dogs because Izzy loves playing with dogs that are bigger than her (you can see the attached picture of her playing on the beach with her friend Moose). One day a week, Izzy goes to an all-day daycare, where the employees say they’ve never seen a 5 month old puppy so astute. she picked up bell training about a month ago 🙂 !
Izzy has such a goofy personality and loves meeting new people. In case you can’t tell, I’m super proud of this little girl!
Noelle FKA Nellie
Things have been amazing!! Nellie (who is now Noelle, or “the baby” as we like to call her) has been adjusting perfectly 🙂 Her and our other dog Bella are just best friends and love playing together at the park. Noelle’s an extremely slow runner compared to the other dogs, but she tries her hardest. She does get a little possessive over her toys, and doesn’t know what to do when we give her a treat sometimes, but it’s all okay.
About two months after we adopted her, our family decided to do a DNA test to see what else she was mixed with. As it turns out, she wasn’t a lab at all! Noelle’s a Catahoula Leopard Dog/Greyhound mix! We were completely shocked! It makes sense though, seeing as she was rescued from the south, which is where most of those dogs are found. We had never even heard of a Catahoula before! It definitely explains her high prey drive and tendency to bark when other dogs get too riled up.
Speaking of her prey drive, we had a bit of an incident early this year. I’d just gotten a hamster, and while my sister and dad were taking it out to hold it, Noelle rushed forward and put the hamster all the way in her mouth! We were so scared! Luckily, she spit it out and the hamster was okay.
At the beginning of October we had a little birthday party for her since it was her 1st birthday, and she loved the treats we made her. We’ve also figured out she loves cheese and belly rubs more than anything in the world 🙂
It’s been wonderful with Noelle, and we couldn’t be happier. She’s the perfect fit for our family!
Ziba FKA Gala
Ziba had a great check up at the vet on Monday & now weighs in at 22 lbs. She is doing great
Eddie is doing well. He recently graduated the Beginner training class from Pet Smart and not only did he pass with flying colors (we never had any doubt) but he helped another puppy complete the exercises in the store that he was too shy to do on his own. Eddie and Duke have since become buds and have met up at the local dog park since then and have a blast together. Eddie is absolutely in love with the dog next door (who is my sister’s dog) and my niece and her friends even held a doggie wedding for the two of them. Attached is a picture of the two of them after the ceremony sharing a rope (in place of the wedding cake).
Eddie had a really rough time when we lost Winnie a month ago but he has been slowly bouncing back and acting more like himself — although we know he misses having a doggy companion in the house. We are so grateful that he is so close with Lucy the dog next door or it would have been much harder for him. But we know we are a 2 dog household and Eddie really needs a companion in the house so are starting to look for a dog that would be the right fit for Eddie and the rest of our family.
We are planning on participating in the walk on the 18th and will be bringing Eddie with us. We will see you there.
Thanks for everything! We absolutely love Eddie and are so grateful to you for rescuing him so that we could adopt him.
Macoby FKA Edgar
Macoby here, just wanted to fill you in on my life in the Reed house. I just turned 6 months old. My parents are excited that I am staying on the small side, but they say I have some really funky hair growing in.. They still aren’t 100% sure what I am, but they often call me a whack-a-doodle or a dinglehoppermoyer. They closed my swimming pool on me, I had become a very good swimmer much to the dismay of my older sister, as I was able to steal her toys from her. They take me on a lot of walks, and I get to spend a lot of time with my cousins Zoey and Trax. I love to chase them around in their big fenced back yard. My parents have not allowed me to go in the creek yet. I adore my older sister Willow, but she sometimes thinks I’m a nuisance, especially when I bite her in the legs and ears. I’ve attached a picture of myself and one of Willow and myself. They made me pose by some pumpkins. I’m not a huge fan of having my picture taken but I will do anything for treats. I hope to visit you at one of your events, I still get a little car sick though, but I am trying to get over that. Thank you for finding me such a wonderful home. I will keep in touch with you, as I owe you my life.
Ruck FKA Gale
Celebrating Ruck’s (FKA Gale) 1 year gotcha day. Endless thanks for making this match, we’re still over the moon in love with him!!
