Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate! It was a very happy week for many of our pups, who celebrated gotcha days just in time to celebrate the holiday with their new family. Shy-boy, Buddy, made a great love connection as evidenced by the look on his new sister Emily’s face!
TLC alumnus Brussels FKA West got something he thinks is way more fun than an Easter basket. He asked Magnolia’s pup, Matilda, if she would do the honor of being his baby sister and she said yes so she changed her name to Liesel and sealed the deal with a long nap when they go home.
Also reveling in homecoming celebrations this week were: Boscoe, Charlie, Chi Chi, Kacie (now Pearl), Kaleb, Kali, Kara, Karmen, Leo, Makayla, Marlo (now Finley), Rocko, Snowball & Sox (now Sadie Marie).
In addition to 16 adoptions this week, we also started out “puppy season” with another pregnant mama giving birth this week-end so it’s been a busy week for us.
We also received some updates to share:
Cooper FKA Charles
Cooper (formerly Charles) is a wonderful dog. He is so smart. He learns commands in minutes. He is an active boy!!! HE is soooo cute. He loves riding in the car. Best dog I ever had.
Hank FKA Rex
Hank (formerly Rex) has been the best addition our family could have asked for. He is the friendliest, most loveable and energetic pup! He loves growing up with our daughter Evelyn and can always be found sleeping next to his furry brother, Riley. He just turned 1 and we had a family celebration. He loved getting new toys to play with. We are so thankful for your rescue!
2 years ago you introduced us to Eliza. Tonight we had chicken and rice all around to celebrate. PB Kong is in the freezer for tomorrow.
Audrey FKA Irish
Audrey (FKA Irish) just wanted to stop by to say hello! Almost a year old, Audrey loves chasing birds, playing with her kitty friend Loki, and snuggling. Even though Audrey isn’t a little puppy anymore, she still loves being a lap dog and taking naps with her human parents!
Daphne FKA Nikolette
I have been meaning to send you an update on Daphne (FKA Nikolette). Daphne and I are doing wonderfully. Daphne is now 9 months old, about 25 lbs, and an absolute doll. I have attached some pictures of her to this email. We have completed two levels of puppy obedience training and have now moved into the adult level trainings. She and I go to puppy playtime several times a week, for walks several times a week on local trails, and Daphne is enrolled in puppy daycare two days a week. To say we “keep busy” is an understatement.
Daphne has become my absolute best friend. She travels with me from Connecticut to Pennsylvania to visit family about once a month. My family adores her and she has quickly stolen their hearts! She always gets tons of “likes” from my friends on social media. In fact, her reputation often precedes her… I work at a college full of over-stressed, animal-deprived students. Daphne has become a local celebrity on campus, frequently being recognized before I am even acknowledged as present. She has this same reaction at the local dog parks and when we are walking around the neighborhood. Employees at Petco, at Daycare, and even at the Vet swoon over Daphne whenever she comes in. Everyone knows Daphne! (… and don’t be fooled for a second – she LOVES it. She is SUCH a ham for all the attention!) She has grown into the most adorable dog and she has tons of love that she wants to give to anyone who will take it. We are still working on her jumping up to cover people in kisses, especially when they are little like her. We are also working on her being so forward, because she will go right for kisses on the mouth! We are trying to teach her to be a lady with bit of modesty. 🙂
My roommate and I have had ZERO issues with her chewing anything that isn’t hers and she has done really well with her house training and crate training. She is a bit of a diva and when she is tired, she will whine at the side of my bed so I will lift her into the bed for her to cuddle up and nap. Since she is such a good dog all the other times, I usually give her this one luxury – BUT if I don’t come to let her in bed, she will cross the hall and go into my roommates room to snuggle with her instead. She has such a big personality for such a little pup.
I can’t say enough about how lucky I feel to have gotten Daphne. TLC, you have changed my life for the absolute better by allowing me to bring Daphne home. Thank you for the work that you do and for allowing single people, living in apartments to rescue an animal. I was denied several times before working with your organization due to my living situation and marital status, but there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to keep this happy girl in my life. I need her just about as much as she needs me.
I will be sure to let you know if there is anything that I need from you. So far Daphne and I have built ourselves quite the little network of support in Connecticut and she has been doing really well in all regards. Keep on doing the work that you do! I always read the “Happy Tails” every week and I hope that once I am more established I hope to come and find Daphne a friend, but that won’t be for a couple of years. I refer everyone I know in PA to your organization and sing your praises. If you need anything from me, please let me know!
Winnie FKA Tawny
Two years ago today we brought home Winnie (fka Tawny) to join our family. Since then she has gained a little brother who she adores! She is such a blessing. Thank you for bringing her into our lives
Just waned to let you know she is doing great! She fit into our family perfectly and we couldn’t picture life without her. She is energetic and a happy girl. She loves to play all day and as soon as night time hits she knows it’s bedtime and becomes a tired snuggle bug. She has become best buds with my little 6 year old brother
Zoey FKA Patty
She is 9 months old now. We got her when she was 3 months old. She is doing great! She loves the kids & she’s so eager to learn. Very smart girl. She’s grown from 22 pounds to 41. We changed her name from Patty to Zoey. Attached is a picture of her then vs. now. Thanks for all you do for the animals!
Murphy FKA Reese
We changed Reese’s name to Murphy (since we adopted her on St Paddy’s Day).
Here she is on a new adventure at the beach (picture attached).
She’s adjusting well. I think she misses being with other dogs, since she cries when she sees one.
She’s a sweety.”
Keira FKA Lily
As you can see, Keira (FKA Lily) is thriving, and I adore her to pieces. She loves big sister Rory, who is very tolerant of having her ankles yanked, and cat sister Moxie, who is very tolerant of being pounced on occasionally.
The third photo was taken a month or so after I adopted her last May. She gathered all the stuffy toys in a pile around her, and then fell asleep. Apparently she was toy-deprived in her former life! I call it “Drunk on Toys”.
The snow photo was taken during the January blizzard. She wasn’t sure about snow at first, but soon fully embraced it. She is super-smart and passed beginning obedience with flying colors, and is now taking intermediate obedience.
She’s such a sweet and loving dog with her family, that I want her to feel comfortable and shine when she’s out and about too.
[Editor’s note: Keira’s mom also noted a bit of leash-reactivity developing recently so she has availed herself of the training support that we provide to our adopters]
