As many of you know, yesterday was NBC/Telemundo’s Clear The Shelters event during which 929 adoptions were completed at local participating shelters & rescues, and 17,823 were completed nationwide. TLC completed adoptions of 11 dogs during yesterday’s event. We also completed 5 adoptions earlier in the week from people who heard about us through Clear The Shelters promotions, applied and decided to bring their new furbaby home right away.
While we know some people were disappointed that they couldn’t just drop in and drive home with the dog of their choice, our goal at TLC isn’t just to get the dog out of the shelter, it’s to make sure the dog and family are well suited to one another so, when the leave us, they will remain with their family for the rest of their lives.
The most important part of #ClearTheShelters is that it isn’t a one-day event, it’s a long-term goal which means this is an ongoing process. The homes of volunteers who fostered the dogs that were adopted are now open so we can pull more dogs from shelters and keep them safe until their family is ready to meet them. If you visited us or any of the shelters or other rescues in the area but didn’t adopt, keep looking – the right pet for you is out there waiting and so there’s no reason to wait for a special event to meet him (or her).
Apollo, now Fred, was adopted yesterday. Fred’s new brother & sister couldn’t have been more excited to adopt him and talk to our trainers to get on the schedule to take a class and then see where their training journey takes them. We have a feeling we’ll stay in touch since they don’t live too far from Fred’s foster mom and the kids have Mini Paw potential.
Chadley, Cherry (now Luna), Chic (now Chloe), Claudia, Clint, Columbus (now Odin), Jaden (now Jazzy), Jonni, Justice, Nora, Reba, Spencer, Tammy, Tommy, Tori, Vanna, Yance, Yoshi (now Chevy), Urv & Ziva also started their new happy tails this week.
The event wasn’t our only news to share this week. We received some updates & pictures of alumni and even enjoyed a visit from Sadie FKA Ivona (who visited her foster family) & Paddy FKA Miles (who took a break from training as a service dog with Main Line Deputy Dog to oversee yesterday’s activities)
Macoby FKA Edgar
It has been two weeks of fun, laughter, and craziness in our house but Macoby is the greatest puppy and seems to have settled into his furever home beautifully. In two weeks he has learned to give his paw, lay down, stay, sit to go out the door and sit to come in the door and sits patiently to be fed.. He is 95% housetrained. He is an excitable pee-er though. He has met my daughter’s two big dogs and they all romp together, he has also met my son’s two little dogs, we are still working on that, they are both a little snippy. He absolutely adores Willow, it took about two days, but they are now inseparable and love to pull rope, wrestle and chew on sticks. We have attached two pictures, as you can see he has grown and he is also sporting his new name tag on the one picture. He sleeps through the night, comfortably in our bed I might add. We will send you more pictures in the future.. We can’t thank you enough for allowing us to adopt Macoby.
Sadie FKA Reina
She is doing great and is a very easy going pup. She is fully house trained and actually never had an accident in Mindys house even while training! (I need Mindy to train all my fosters!) She is very laid back and fits in perfectly! Mindy is training her to play frisbee as she is an avid frisbee player and takes her to games to cheer her team on!
Brooklyn FKA Laura
Brooklyn is making the transition from mischievous puppy to a good dog. She loves people, dogs, swimming and fetching a ball thrown in the water. Attached is a picture of Brooklyn and my daughters dog drying off after swimming in the lake.
Sadie FKA Gingersnap (Willow FKA Bindi & Roscoe FKA Elvis’s pup)
She is doing amazing!! She is completely house broken. We have gone through puppy training and just completed basic training. Soon we will be starting advanced training and agility. We are most likely going to have her be a therapy dog as well. She loves to swim and run the yard. She herds her toys which I think is hysterical. I keep telling the kids that Sadie cleans up her toys better than they do. We definitely made the right choice with her. She is a perfect addition to our family. She even gets along great with the rabbit and cat. We hope that her siblings are doing just as great as Sadie. Thank you again for getting Sadie into our home.
Dixie FKA Alaska
Just wanted to send you a cute picture of our Dixie (“Alaska”). She’s doing great. She loves her “big” brother, Vito (my Cairn Terrier). She is such a good girl and is so sweet, and spoiled rotten!! She loves to play and will go and get her toys and bring them to you. She listens very well and has learned “Come” and a few other commands. She’s been with us almost a year and I can’t imagine our household without her. She travels with us to go on vacation and has learned that it’s ok to go on long car rides to visit grandma. Thanks for making our family complete with our Dixie girl!
Molly is doing very well! She’s made herself right at home in our family. She had her wellness visit with the vet and they said everything looks great with her! She has a few simple commands down, so we’re really working with her in obeying when she’s excited, especially as we are trying to get her and our cat used to one another. We will certainly send pictures and updates!
Just wanted to let you know Lizzie is an adventure! Please tell me where I can find the batteries in her! LOL! This girl is non stop! She is doing well and she is so much fun to watch and play with. Mimi our senior can’t be around her too much because Lizzie is a little rough – she just wants to play! Tiki is co-existing with her. He’s not “playing” but he’s very interested in what she does and where she goes. I think in time he will join in with her. We had a couple of incidents around food that I had to break up but we try to keep them apart at meal time or with treats. Overall Lizzie has adjusted already and loves her new life.
