donate nowWe have a fighter on our hands, and she needs your support!  Ginger came to To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. (TLC) filthy, emaciated and very pregnant on April 21, 2018. The shelter conditions in which she came from were miserable, dirty and unhealthy.  Within days of arriving to her TLC foster home, momma Ginger went into labor. She delivered 10 puppies, but unfortunately the runt did not make it. Soon after birth, her foster noticed something wasn’t right with Ginger.

Shortly after arriving to Metropolitan Veterinary Services, it was discovered that Ginger had an eleventh puppy (the largest puppy) stuck in her birth canal.  In order to save her life, Ginger had  emergency surgery to remove the puppy, perform a hysterectomy, and prevent the infection from spreading.

While fighting for her own life, she was unable to be with her puppies for 5 days, which is a pivotal time period for mom and pups to be together.  Within those crucial days, 7 puppies were just not strong enough to fight this world without the love and nourishment of their mom. While mom was in the care of Metropolitan, the puppies went to a foster home that was able to provide round-the-clock bottle feeding.

On the way to that foster home, 1 of the weakest puppies passed away. While at that foster home, 3 more puppies did not make it without the nourishment of their mother.  Our loving, patient fosters did everything humanly possible to try to save these lives, from bottle feeding every few hours to performing canine CPR as a last stitch effort.   Once Ginger was able to go home, her puppies went back to her, but unfortunately, all of that just wasn’t enough for all but 3 puppies. It is thanks to those incredible, determined foster families with huge hearts that 3 of those puppies survived against all odds.

And it is thanks to the immediate and loving care of Metro Vet that Ginger pulled through.  It was well worth the $6,000 (not including food, routine vetting, and puppy formula) because Ginger is thriving, as are her 3 adorable puppies. With your donations, we are able to save more lives just like Ginger and her puppies, who will all be available for adoption sometime in July.
