When the weather outside gets frigid, windy, rainy, or snowy it is not always conducive for long walks. Most of us know that the big box chain pet stores and the local independent owned pet stores allow leashed dogs. But did you know that many other stores now have dog-friendly policies that you can bring your dog while you shop? If your dog is well-behaved on the leash, is not an excessive barker, does not jump and is housebroken, this may be a winter option for some indoor leash walking.

2According to I Love Dogs, Macy’s welcomes dogs and extends in-store courtesies and collaborations with the SPCA. Macy’s even featured adoptable dogs in their holiday window displays one year.

In addition to Macy’s, Nordstrom and the Nordstrom Rack welcome well-behaved dogs on a leash.

Many locations for the Apple Store are happy to allow well-behaved dogs on leash. However, since this store can get a lot of foot traffic, you should make sure your dog can handle the commotion, noise and crowds.

3Both Lowes and Home Depot have an official canine corporate policy of “service dogs only,” yet many individual locations are dog-friendly. Managers have differing views on the policy, so call ahead—unless you are only going to the Outdoor Living section, which is generally dog-friendly everywhere.

Bass Pro Shops encourages customers to bring their pups. They have a popular “Dog Days” event each year. The Bass Pro Shop blog announced: Customers will sometimes bring their puppies or young dogs in to Bass Pro Shops to help get them socialized. A good time to do the new introduction to this environment is during the weekday mornings or evenings. So, next time you come to Bass Pro Shops, bring your well-socialized canine buddy and we will be sure to spoil them rotten!”

At Lush Cosmetics not only are dogs welcome in this store, but you can purchase your makeup from this company knowing that you both share a love for animals—Lush has a no animal testing policy for their products.

Many of the stores listed below are connected to larger malls. You should check ahead with your area mall for their policy which may or may not welcome dogs inside.
